Alex Rita  (EU)

Alex Rita (Steam Down/Touching Bass) — the Denmark-born, London-based selector, illustrator, singer and designer — is a talented seamstress in more ways than one. When not tailoring clothes for her own brand, Onda, singing or illustrating lifelike imagery, she patches together sets with soulful, percussive grooves and organic sounds. Listeners can be blessed with everything from spiritual jazz, field recordings and drum ensembles to deep house in one sitting; all aimed at the soul and the feet.

Along with Errol, Alex Rita is one of the main forces behind Touching Bass: a movement of London-based soul disciples who hold down a biweekly NTS Radio slot, an innovative discussion/live music series called Speaking In Sound and a regular dance (specifically not called a party and communicated via texting service) among other creative endeavours.

The last few years have seen her play further afield, including a debut Australia/Japan tour in March 2018 and appearances at Dimensions (2016/2017), Worldwide (2018) and Brainchild (2017/2018) festivals. Add to that multiple appearances at cultural institutions including the ICA, BFI (for the UK premiere of Black Panther) and TATE Britain/Modern.

Alex is also a key member and vocal backbone of Steam Down, London’s most exciting weekly live night and a hub for the best musicians both local and beyond. She is one half of duo Okapii — who are releasing their debut album on Fresh Selects.
