The Twilite Tone

Grammy-nominated producer, The Twilite Tone, cross pollinates and defies musical category defining his viewpoint of his creativity, trans-genre.

Tone, born Anthony Khan, spent his adolescence between Chicago’s famed south side neighborhoods, Chatham and Hyde Park as well as Laplace and Reserve in southeast Louisiana. While music was naturally engrained in Tone’s DNA, it was cultivated by the sounds of southern marching bands and New Orleans second line, coupled with his love for jazz, fusion, funk, soul and the ever growing, native Chicago dance music known as house. After leading creative collective Dem Dare, later to be renamed The Darians by Tone, he went on to collaborate under the name Ynot with Grammy and Academy award winning rapper, Common on some of his earliest records, and was instrumental in helping to weave together the vital black sounds of hip hop and house music at a time when Chicago’s native tunes monopolized its dance floors.Tone has continued to develop his musical repertoire by expanding into DJ sets that infuse live vocals and his original instrumentation, while his production credits maintain a funky internal rhythm and have influenced underground as well as contemporary, and popular music alike. The Twilite Tone has produced for the likes of Damon Albarn and Gorillaz, producing their “Humanz” album.

Also, working with John Legend, Kanye West,  Pusha T, Cody Chesnutt and a host of other notable artists, he has released a string of highly acclaimed and sought after independent projects for boutique labels such as Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, UNO Records, The Wurst Music Co., Grimy Trax, and Throne of Blood under the monikers Great Weekend, Master Khan and of course, The Twilite Tone. Tone can be seen curating vibrations from the east to west coast, while continuing to pay homage to the eternal musical legacy fore-fathered by his deep Chicago roots.
